The nature of stevedoring presents a vast array of environmental, physical, and mechanical risks that require constant effective communication, consultation, supervision, and training, together with sound systems of work, to ensure those risks are managed.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Previous experience as a stevedore or in a similar cargo handling role is preferred.
  • Knowledge of bulk cargo handling techniques and equipment.
  • Ability to operate cargo handling machinery and equipment safely.
  • Understanding the best practices for loading and unloading materials to maximise efficiency and minimise spillage or waste.

  • Strong physical fitness and stamina for demanding manual labour. Working long shifts in varying weather conditions, requiring sustained physical effort and concentration.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures in the maritime industry. (Marine Orders)
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
